Many things have been said about Lane Kiffin and his mouth (check out the wall of shame for examples). The things said and the things said about what was said have already been examined, cross-examined, and made into a running joke. But in all the analysis I have read, no one seems to get it. Many have pointed to how angry it will make our opponents. Others have pointed out that it raises Tennessee’s profile with recruits.
But lets be honest! What do words mean? If I point at you and call you a chair, does that make you a chair? No. And if I call you a chair, are you likely to get upset about it? I wouldn’t think so. What people often overlook is that the insults that upset us the most are the ones that hit closest to home.

Kiff has undoubedtly made Layla aware all of her faults (be them few),
yet they are still married. coincidence? I think not.
Kiffin called Florida head coach, Urban Meyer, a cheater. The Gator fans were livid. Why? Because in their heart of hearts they know things aren’t kosher. They wake up every morning with no choice but to accept the idea of plausible deniability.
Kiffin’s quote about beating Florida and singing Rocky Top all night long went straight to the bulletin board for all the Florida players to see every day. Why? Because they want to exact punishment on Kiffin? That may be the story told. They may talk and act as if that is their reasoning, but again, things are not always what they seem. What they don’t admit, is that they don’t know what Kiffin is able to do, and nothing is scarier to people than the unknown. They are scared of Kiffin’s Vols, and probably give Tennessee a bigger chance than most of the media to win, in their minds.
The things that go unsaid are so much more important than what is said.
That’s the true power of words.
